PATRI MCLAUGHLINPatri McLaughlin placed 9th at Red Bull King of the Air amongst a highly talented list of pros. Now the 17 year-old balances college classes and throwing down moves at Kite Beach, Maui. Age: 17 Birthday: 6/7/89 Stats: 5' 7", 120 lbs Hometown: Haiku, HI Currently living: Haiku, HI School: Maui Community College Kiting since: Summer 2002 Where did you learn? The Real Kite Beach, Maui HI Who helped you along the way? Well, my parents got me lessons, and my friend Gabe learned with me. The way I feel at the end of a good day. It makes me want to kite more and more. What would you like to change? The way kiting is viewed by surfers, we rip the waves too. Stranded on a desert island, what kite would you bring? Does the island have waves? then my Vegas 7. flat water probly a Vegas 12. SEAN FARLEYSean Farley - Originally from Colima, Mexico, this energetic 18-year old is training in the Gorge for the summer. Age: 18 Birthday: August 1st Stats: 5'10", 158lbs Hometown: Colima, Mexico Currently living: I'll be based out of Hood River for a couple months while this is published, but mostly all over the place. School: Just finished freshman year at LaVerne University, California. Kiting since: Started experimenting Oct 2002 Where did you learn? My home beach Pascuales with best friend Eduardo Ochoa, on our own. Who helped you along the way? I must say Adam Finer was the most important step, as he took me to Hood River and got me started with North Kites in summer of 2004. Tons of people have helped though, and I'm thankful to everyone. Best Results: 2x Mexican national champion. I've done pretty good in quite a few competitions, but I base accomplishments more on other things than comp results. Plans for summer 2006: I've got my plans set until December. I'll be competing and traveling, trying to make it to the next level on every means, and creating along the way. What do you enjoy most about kiteboarding? Diversity. It's the most diverse sport in the world that I know of, and I love doing all kind of sports and activities. I'd get bored if it weren't for that. Waveriding is my favorite of all though. What would you like to change? About kiteboarding? I wouldn't really like to complain, I just rather make things better. Stranded on a desert island, what kite would you bring? 10m Rhino or 12m Vegas. Could I bring my Rocketfish too? Please? Harness, bar & lines and the whole deal? |
